The TENN-A-SKI MAVERICK SKI CLUB (TMSC) was founded in May of 2000 and recently celebrated its eighth year of existence. The Charter Members of TMSC founded our club with the objective of being a more inclusive, rather than exclusive organization, and wants to share the enjoyment of winter sports with as many persons as possible. The TMSC is the largest ski club in the Mid-South area and has been accepted as a chapter of the Midwest Region of the National Brotherhood of Skiers (NBS), the largest ski organization in the world with over 15,000 members worldwide.


The TENN-A-SKI MAVERICKS SKI CLUB has four objectives:

1. Promote winter sports among minorities in the state of Tennessee and the Mid-South Area:
2. Support the NBS in providing scholarship funds for potential Olympic caliber minority skiers and snowboarders
3. Support the NBS developing educational programs for minority youth, which stimulate competition and sportsmanship
4. Participate in NBS sponsored conventions, which focus on instructional and recreational skiing and snowboarding.

The NBS has been in existence since 1972 and has established as its goal, the finding, selecting and funding of African-American and other ethnic youth capable of earning a berth on the United States Ski Team. With 84 clubs in 41 cities, the NBS is considered the fastest growing ski organization in the world.

Every January we take a wonderful Martin Luther King Weekend Youth Trip during the MLK holiday’s to Hidden Valley Ski Area near St. Louis. This trip is designed to expose youth and families to the winter sports of skiing and snowboarding and it’s a great opportunity for kids and adults with no ski or snowboard experience to try these activities.

Our second trip is with more than 3,500 other African-American skiers and snowboarders from around the world, who descend upon a top resort every ski season for a Summit or Mini-Summit and a weeklong celebration of skiing and socializing. We end our season with a trip along with all of the other twenty-two clubs in the Midwest Region to the Midwest Region Winterfest.
